Throughout the process of designing this project we had several ideas that were developed, giving our client several options. With the clients priorities of highiest importance we were able to develop detailed conceptual drawings that encompased the various components that were needed to make this project a success.

Three basic designs were devised using a priority triangle that incoperated the main aspects of importance regarding this project. These aspects were Aesthetics, Cost and Functionality.

Below is a detailed description regarding each devised design and its various components

In the Gallery above you will find the detailed section views of the project we created using AutoCAD

Conceptual Design Drawings

Using AutoCAD and Trimble Sketcup we created several drawings that helped us illustrate our visions regarding what we felt best met the clients needs.

By leaving the bottom floor as it previously was and by introducing multipurpose rooms on the newly renovated second floor extention we were able to deliver a project that would fully meet the clients functional needs. With the clients clear emphasis regarding the sound proofing of these rooms however, the highier celings would create additional costs.

Floor 1:

  • Would be more closed off then before and as a result a restriction in light would inevitably decrease the Aesthetic feel of the bottom floor

  • The Addition of Windows could potentially let more light in

  • Large beams would be installed to support the second floor however these beens would be explosed on the bottom floor to maintain the aesthetic look and environement of the building

Floor 2:

  • Extending the floor to the full space available

  • Would be used for multifunctional meeting rooms through the utilization of vertical moving Skywalls

  • Skylights would be installed as well as internal and external windows. This would allow for the reflection and maximization of natural light

  • Additional beams would be installed to support vertical sound proof retactable walls that would be used to divide each meeting room

Design Option 2 (Cost & Aesthetics)

Switching the functionality of floors 1 & 2 to ensure that the open public space could maintain the level of light that it previously had. Although this made it harder for patrons to relax in a serene area, due to having to travel up the stairs,  it drastically cut costs due to the complexity of adding walls to the high ceiling while also mainting sunlight. As a result this option was more cost effecient and aesthetically pleasing.

Floor 1:

  • Would be used for multifunctional meeting rooms

  • Would install moving walls (horizontal or vertical)  to allow the rooms to become size adjustable

  • Add  fixed external walls to seperate the hallway and the multifunctional meeting rooms

Floor 2:

  • Extending the floor to the full space availble

  • Adding a fire place upstairs to maintain functionality and comfort for patrons

  • Add Skylights to increase amount of light

  • The open concept would remain and minimal work would have to be done on the second floor, reducing cost while maintaining aesthetics

Design Option 3 (Functionality & Cost)

This design was very similar to the chosen design. Essentially it would leave the bottom floor as it previously was and introduce multipurpose rooms on the newly renovated second floor extention. However the extention of the walls to the ceiling would not be done therefore reducing the cost of installing internal skylights and windows. Furthermore, the implementation of horizontal moving walls were a cheaper alternative and allowed us to decrease the projects cost.

Floor 1:

  • Would remain closed off from the second floor

  • Windows and a tublar skylight could be added to increase the amount of natural lighting

  • Large beams would be installed to support the second floor however these beens would be explosed on the bottom floor to maintain the aesthetic look and environement of the building

  • Other then these alterations the floor plan would remain the same

Floor 2:

  • Extending the floor to the full space available

  • Would be used for multifunctional meeting rooms through the utilization of moving walls

  • Skylights would be installed as well as windows that would allow for the maximum amount of natural light

  • 2 Horizontal Moving walls would be located in the room to divide the room when needed

  • 8' high external walls would be added to close off the room from the hallway and a ceiling would be added to close the rooms off from any un wanted external noise.
